[It looks like this would be where they would be trying to make that case](https://aws.amazon.com/rekognition/?blog-cards.sort-by=item.additionalFields.createdDate&blog-cards.sort-order=desc). Given that the NFL and CBS are listed as clients (and based on my experience with certain large organizations), I'd guess one selling point they succeed at is helping to make large media repositories or sets of live feeds searchable by who is in them. For large organizations this might be the only feasible way to tag that the massive collections they have accurately and may offer much quicker or more thorough access to the media they have. This is also why Bing and Google use facial recognition... to make it more likely that they can return a photo you search for. While the privacy concerns are very worth worrying about and could warrant a ban, it's not crazy to think that a lot of people see a benefit in its current offering or that features that could be developed in the near future would appeal to the masses.
