This is a pretty small and maybe flawed opinion, but you could possibly implement a psychological factor that makes it where the AI feels vastly uncomfortable doing things like that to help. If you kind of think about it, those types of factors are far more influential than you would think. Humanity has taboos, which is up to you to determine how uncomfortable it is to you, and so do animals to a smaller extent. It obviously doesn't fully prevent it, but it could maybe help.
