Your definition of weak AI appears to little more than automated systems that follow an ‘if x then y’ process. One may multiply up the number of variables but if the machine is not learning to create its own algorithm then to some people it is not AI. Personally I don’t care whether we call this AI or not. It is a form of automation that has dominated the lives of industrial workers for getting for 150 -200 years - though of course to increasing degree. The discovery that this form of ‘AI’ (if that is what we want to call it) is potentially oppressive and destructive of the human spirit is not new - except to some white collar workers who have recently found to their horror that it is how they are treated as consumers and now fear that it is how they will soon be treated as employees. The operative force here is not a particular technology, it is a form of production and consumption and it is commonly known as capitalism.
