While I agree with how scary it is whenever these "ban facial recognition" topics come up I want to know how? This isn't some highly specialized technology that requires specific hardware that you could restrict. The required hardware is a camera and something with an ok amount of computation power (a phone essentially qualifies at this point). Both are commodity items. The research and software required to build recognition systems is freely available. I guess you can legislate its admissibility in official contexts but that doesn't solve the data collection issue of random parties. Also you can apply recognition technology after the fact to any kind of recorded footage. Including images and videos you scraped from the internet where everyone that has a phone freely shares this stuff.
