They don't because they don't give a fuck whilst accepting money from the fossil fuel and automotive industry for drilling their narrative into simple minded people's heads. That's actually all there is to it. Just a few years back German Sigmar Gabriel of the SPD out of the blue cut subsidies for solar panel research whilst Germany was leading in that field. That is just fucking insane. I wonder if it had anything to do with the coal industry workers being the SPD's traditional clientele... Yes, we would all need to adjust our consumption and get more aware and changes will have to be made but in no way as drastically as you describe it catapulting us back to Victorian ages. That's just ridiculous and shows how effective the fossil fuel industry is pushing their fear mongering narrative. And yes, taxes will just do that. They will force the wealthy to change their production methods because at some point it will become too expensive to product using fossil fuel. The only way to get shit done and change in a capitalist society is to tax the rich so they will fucking stop doing it. It's the only language a system focused almost solely on profit and growth will ever understand. Hit them where it hurts aka their wallets. But that of course needs a lot of public pressure on the politicians so they have to fear the next outcome of the elections more than the retribution of their sugar daddy. And that is exactly what Greta and her activists are accomplishing right now, little by little. And exactly all that media coverage is helping to achieve that. So why don't you people stop fucking crying and if you're not helping at least shut the fuck up and let people who have the motivation to do what must be done do their thing?
