This is an example of why we turned away from ancient, obsolete notions of linear progressions of civilizations. With ethnocentric lenses to view from, we see those-like-us as gods and those-not-us as primitive, backwards savages. Turn the lens around, and you see how disgustingly backwards we are in other metrics we weren't judging ourselves against.
