This may just be my arrogance on the subject but I do not see the issue with the use of facial recognition software as in all of the cases I have seen of it ends up benefiting the consumer in the end. In the case of criminals, it is widely known that privacy is the price paid for safety and if it helps criminals be put away rightfully then it is a price I am willing to pay.
