The overwhelming majority of their wealth is tied up in investments, businesses that provide employment, goods, and services to people, and if they blow some of their extra money on a fancy car or a fancy house somebody got paid to design and build that car or home. The real reason they're getting richer is that regular people keep giving them their extra money instead of saving and investing it for themselves. They buy the goods and services their businesses offer in excess of what they actually need. The US government budget for medicare is over $700 billion dollars. Turns out that doctors, nurses, chemists, researchers, machinists, welders, brick layers, carpenters, and on and on all work for money because they too have mouths to feed and have to be paid. Forcing most of it to go non-profit and nationalizing insurance would help, but that just gets rid of profit margins and stock dividends, and some paper pushers who would have to find other jobs, not all of the people who work in healthcare and need to feed and clothe their families. Look at your artist statement. Money is *time*, you trade part of your lifetime in order to get it, either by working directly or planning and executing investments of it to make it grow. Why should someone give of their lifetime to support another person who isn't giving them *something* they value, even if it's just art that they like enough to hang it on the wall?
