The reason this is happening is because it's game over for anyone that doesn't get to self-driving cars first. The sedan market? That's just people getting to work. We're actually seeing corporations kill a class of car in anticipation of this. If there were self-driving cars? Take the cheapest, bargain basement Uber you've ever seen, and it's a lot cheaper than owning a car. It's coming, and when it does, look out. The first one to the market is the market winner, and it causes other car manufacturers to die. Straight out, dead. Imagine a fleet of self-driving vehicles, that are reliable, working 24/7 in a city. Literally, there would be no need for a cab at night. There would be self-driving connector busses that flexed for usage. Road congestion would change. More importantly, the people that win that market win the commuters of America... and like Facebook, there is no real market challenge after that.
