If it makes you feel better, when I went to college I was reading about how fucked the world will be. That was (probably) before you were born. I have seen old documentaries from before I was born saying how fucked the world will be. I think the same is true going back further. I a documentary a while back that pointed out that although our current path results in destruction, paths change. Not as much as we'd want (we're not heading towards a utopia), but enough for us to continue and give our kids the same level of 'oh my god we're fuckedness' that we have. Overall the world is getting better in many ways it's just that once problems are solved we don't focus on them, especially when bad news sells. I hope this makes you feel better. I don't believe a word of it myself, but I assure you that the guy in the documentary who had hope for the future was well educated and seemed to know what he was talking about.
