This might be misleading. It's clear from world bank data that the rate of deforestation has been constant since at least 1990 and that the forest cover due to human deforestation has been reduced by an area about the size of Texas in that time. The article doesn't really clarify, but It's possible that the offset is due to new forests cropping up in the northern latitudes due to global warming.
