This is what happens. This is how totalitarian police states start. The more rights and privacy people give up in the name of "safety and protection" the less freedom they will have. It only gets worse. It's not like it's some conspiracy to take complete control, it's just a natural occurrence. Take away the guns, well we need the knives too. Add CCTV to remove any privacy while in public. It's okay, only the authorities can see, and we trust them. now add facial recognition, and when the tech gets enough data and tweaked to nearly perfect accuracy.. nothing is stopping a government from using it to find opposition leaders, or even their own family. Because people can't be trusted with that kind of power. They will use the excuse that if you have nothing to hide, then you shouldn't worry. Maybe I do have something to hide..Maybe I don't. But what if I'm hiding something because you passed a law that isn't there to protect anyone, it's just there because you're an oppressive fuck?
