They're not naive about the danger of the tech, certainly, but they do seem naive about human nature. The history of humanity is partly a history of developing new and improved ways to kill each other. This technology is coming, whether we like it or not, and an idealistic refusal to develop it on the part of democratic nations only makes it easier for a despot like Xi to get his hands on them first. I'm against the creation of killer robots as much as any of these researchers. I would vastly prefer that researchers focus on countermeasures and software defenses, instead. But completely sticking our heads in the sand does us no favors.
