I disagree that this is a uniquely Chinese problem or a direct result of recent Chinese history. This (buying in to bullshit medicine) has nothing to do with China specifically. There are literally tens of millions of well educated people that believe in superstitious nonsense. For example, there are college graduates who got sucked into Scientology.
