Even 40 hours a week is a ridiculous waste of life if you don't enjoy your job in my opinion, and most people do not love their career. Realistically why can't it be 20 hours a week at double the pay? Is it a fundamental law of the universe that makes this an impossibility? Of course not, it could easily be made to work. People would be happier with more free time, quality of life would increase, productivity and motivation would increase, and the unemployed could be trained up and employed to make up for the lost 20 hours of work.
