They aren't sick, they are efficient at a mechanism we are selecting for. It's the weak ones, the ones who are bad at it that don't want the poor to be helped. They feel that since they must work so hard to survive in such a competitive system, if the weak died, their resource allotments, their reach would fall into the hands of the less able but still managing. It doesn't help that actively coming up with ways to help the poor gets you downvote brigaded, or telling people the truth about money management. With very little money, relatively, we could solve a lot of these problems entirely. But for various reasons people don't want it done, in reality. They don't want super cheap affordable housing, they don't want easy access to healthy food etc, even if it's manageable it's prevented. Americans aren't even allowed to grow food on their land a lot of the time the government wants control of that. You aren't allowed to build shelters that can house hundreds or thousands, they don't want that many destitute people to exist, let alone to help them try to find their way out of it. The true problem in this country is the belief that those who are poor should stay poor, that they cannot rise out of it, and that they have nothing to offer - and every time they begin to, our system shoves them back down and says get a job, which is something that slowly begins not to exist and has already been obsolete for at least two decades. There are much better solutions to these problems than jobs, there always have been. A job is a function of slavery, which with proper automation is an outdated, and unnecessary function. Autonomy in body, autonomy in finance, people do not fight for these things, so soon they will be gone, and with them the last opportunities to make this planet a land of civilized kings - instead, it will mostly be peasants fighting over scraps with a few extremely rich sprinkled in controlling things (most likely) totally irrationally.
