Right - this is what Sam Harris refers to as *The end of human drudgery*, but when he talks about AI, one of Harris's main points is that, even ignoring issues of safety and control, our economic systems are such that general AI would likely lead to a small number of trillionaires, and extreme poverty for everyone else. I'm not impressed by the linked article. It gives the impression Gates hasn't thought about AI for more than a couple of minutes. I suspect his views are far more complete.
