The November celebration to celebrate the dead is not the same as famadihana, or at least where I lived. For this one there is usually a big community gathering involving the slaughtering of a cow/steer and partitioning of the meat. Then all the families go to their tombs and tidy them up; sweep around it, pull weeds, rinse it off all the mud and muck of the last year. It does not involve touching dead bodies.
