Fortunately, it seems to be slowing down. Yesterday the reported caseload was 1,801 since August 1st. That's including probable and suspected cases. Only 127 deaths, although I've seen some numbers higher than 1,800 and 127. Government of Madagascar reported only 1,058 cases and 62 deaths as of November 1st. The spread rate recently seems to show a declining trend, although pneumonic plague is terrifyingly contagious. Madagascar typically sees about 300 to 600 cases a year, usually rural and usually bubonic. This outbreak unfortunately is concentrated in urban and peri-urban environments, so there is a much higher threat. Fortunately it hasn't jumped the island though; the one suspected case in Seychelles was confirmed negative. So, I wouldn't panic yet.
