Antibiotics I'm guessing. The plague is a bacterial infection. I also saw a documentary about a small village in Madagascar that had recently suffered a plague epidemic and a contributing factor as to why it had gotten so bad (in their village at least) was because people relied on their medicine men instead of getting antibiotics. Once the local healer died from plague they sent out healthy people to get help and they airlifted medication by helicopter to the village which saved a lot of lives. A lot of these places are so remote the only way to get to them is by helicopter in the first place, unless you're going to walk, which made it harder.
