Pneumonic plague is I believe airborne/through infectious droplets so usually from coughing up tissue etc. Touching dead infected animals or people causes septicaemic and bubonic plague. Bubonic plague is the one we usually think of, with the swollen, black lymph nodes. But this is mostly pneumonic plague.
