Absolutely. Fanboys are delusional. The technology should still be pursued, but each of the big automakers has the funds to build their own Disneyland of private roadways to test these out on for decades before they should turn them loose on our streets. Giving them a pass on safety is tantamount to gross negligence when citizens start inevitably dying from accidents caused by autonomous cars. The technology is nowhere near ready and everyone knows it, and truthfully it might never be outside of highly regulated freeway driving. People should realize that. They'll need some breakthroughs to make it happen as the existing technology doesn't cut it. The biggest issue lies with sensor reliability and redundancy, as well as the susceptibility to sabotage. The current sensationalism surrounding autonomous cars is astounding. Yeah we need real life testing, but we don't test bombs in our cities. We test dangerous shit way the fuck away from civilization.
