Machines can make as many human mistakes as the carmakers build into them, be it from insufficient testing, systems failures, and/or negligence. They've faced gigantic judgments against them when it comes to seat belts, car bags, ignition, emissions, and so on. Why do people suddenly think the automakers will take on the direct and complete control of people's lives and not fuck it up? They'll only do so if they enjoy indemnity because if they fuck up bad enough it would bankrupt the entire company. There are myriad weaknesses inherent to self driving cars, many of which show no signs of improving.
