It may come to a point where they just need a warm body at a lower wage and not a skilled worker that would be able to demand a reasonable wage. What if they can automate the truck so that they just carry part-time workers for 3 hours, drop them off, and pick up a new part-time worker for the next 3 hours, while an automated truck going back in the other direction takes the first person back to where he came from. If anything goes wrong it, the part time person calls for a local skilled driver to take over. Trucks would be driving at all hours of the day, only stopping to refuel and change "drivers". What if there was *one* person at the destination whose sole job was to dock automated trucks coming in? Full automation is a long way off, but even just a little bit of automation in the right areas can wreak havoc just by allowing less people to do more. Walmart, google and a bunch of others are working on this because they see how much they can save. I'm not going to underestimate them.
