No, the bill requires the auto manufacturers to prove the self driving cars are at LEAST as safe as current vehicles. So it is actually increasing car safety if you think about it. Will there still be accidents? Yeah. But currently there are on average 3,287 deaths a day from cars. http://asirt.org/initiatives/informing-road-users/road-safety-facts/road-crash-statistics So if we can lower that number, why wouldn't we? This bill also doesn't force you to buy a self driving car. You would benefit from self driving cars though. Think of all the car accidents are from "the other person". You may be a better driver than other people, but if some idiot runs into you and you/your family ends up injured or worse youd probably wish they had a self driving car. The only accident I have been in where my car was totaled was because the driver was brand new and didn't understand that green light in the left turn lane doesn't mean they had a right away (green arrow does). So I had a green light and they turned in front of me and the rest is history. A self driving car would not have turned. I fully welcome self driving cars.
