On our way to the sixth global extinction? We're right in the fucking middle of it. We've ravaged and destroyed thousands of species already. Extinctions in the past have taken tens of thousands of years. We're doing this in a couple hundred. The human species is a literal cancer to the planet. We began as a normal and probably helpful part of an ecosystem. We spread. We grew. We took over. We consumed resources. We killed vast parts of the planet and helpful species to the planet. Look at the planet from the view of space at night and our cities look like tumors. Giant globs of concrete and dead planet with networks (highways and roads) reaching to more resources to kill. And like a cancer, we collectively don't see our invasive growth as a problem until our host dies and we die along with it. Humanity is the first time in all of Earth's nearly 4.6 billion years where a single species has caused an extinction like this. EDIT: Since some folks seem to be getting offended by this I'd just like to point out that I don't have some bitter nihilistic views on the life of humans. I don't want to eradicate or kill anyone. My point is that our species as a whole is consuming and consuming at unsustainable levels, while depriving other life. What else does that? A cancer. I'm not saying that YOU as a single individual are a cancer.
