I'm on just a bit over minimum wage. I live VERY frugally. I get no handouts from anyone even parents. I live on things like noodles (35p), protein bread (27p) fish sticks (£1) and jelly (12p). I don't go out much or spend what I don't have. I live in a shit house in a shit area. And each month if I'm lucky and I don't have any problems with my car (Which I need to get to work) I have £7.40 saved each month. All of which goes around Christmas time by the way. My Rent is very very cheap, at £350. Council tax is £~~280~~ 100. Electricity £30, gas £30. Petrol each month is about £100-120. Insurance is £150. internet £30. phone £15. Water £25. Gym membership £20. Food is around £50. Spotify £7. That's very nearly all my wage gone. I don't want to get rid of my leisure in that expense report. Because I think that would push me towards buying some rope and taking a trip to the country to find a nice barn... So I'd struggle calling what I do working to survive. Just prolonging the inevitable. God I love being British.
