When did BP make 30 billion (dollars? Pounds?) in profits in one quarter? That would be very big news. Now, 30 billion in revenue for a quarter is low for BP--they have recently dropped from ~$90 billion per quarter to 55 billion now. Also, BP's dividend yield means that most profits are returned directly to the shareholders, leaving little for a rainy day. Edit: Looked through their financials. They declared in 2013 an annual profit (not quarterly), before taxes, of $30.221b. This was in part due to the net profit of $13b from sales of assets--sold to pay for the large fine. So their annual operating profit, before taxes, was $14b, and they paid $8b in taxes. Quite a different story than a $30b profit in one quarter.
