The whole takeaway I got from Haidt's book is that people's moral/political judgments for the most part do not have underlying premises at all--so to speak of underlying moral philosophies doesn't make sense. His research leads him to argue that most moral judgments are made unconsciously and automatically, and only when people are pressed do they attempt to justify them.
