Does work with major exceptions. It has to work nearly 100%.
Tesla's self driving is equivalent to lane assist that Mercedes and bunch of cars had over 10 years ago. Self parking went mainstream 5 years ago.
Google's self driving car uses LIDAR which sucks at rain and snow. The amount of data LIDAR gets is probably 0.1% of what you eyes get.
Yes it's all more accurate, consistent, has more various sensors, but computer vision has to be as close to human capabilities as possible.
