The current self-driving car behavior is "If I don't know what to do, stop." How many of these cars were rear-ended because they stopped in the middle of the road, unexpectedly, for no reason? In California, the person who rear-ends the other car is at fault, which is not always fair. Furthermore, Google has *very* deep pockets, and they have a lot riding on this technology. You bet your ass I would accept fault if they flashed around the kind of crazy insurance payouts they would be capable of.
