Honestly your arguments are why we would deploy such robots. In terms of location protection, Metal Storm weapons systems uses (used?) perimeter monitoring systems, break the field and activate the weapon. I think it is also reasonable to assume that if you have a mechanized weapon system guarding entrances, there are already fences and additional measures in place, you know to avoid having children with toy guns wandering in ;) I do get your point and years ago I worked with a client who was interested in applying AI to defense systems to add in an additional layer of security, so have another layer to say "Is this the correct and only option we have"? before deploying a weapon.
