Well Japan have invaded Korea a **LOT** over the centuries, and they where generally not very gentle rulers, the atrocities during WWII is only the tip of the iceberg. They also feel Japan have never properly apologized and indeed tend to defend their past actions (partially due to culture around honoring ancestors and such). Yeah it's in the past, but centuries of hostility don't always wash away easily.
