Yeah Norway did the same with Indonesia and Brazil and failed miserably... USD 1 Billion to Indonesia (2010): http://newswatch.nationalgeographic.com/2010/05/27/norway_gives_indonesia_one_billion_dollars_for_forests/ It failed in Indonesia (2014): http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/worlds-worst-illegal-logging-in-indonesia-20140629-zsq5j.html Norway promised USD 1 Billion to Brazil also a Failure (increased logging by 10% that year alone): http://forestryanddevelopment.com/site/2014/06/11/norways-billion-dollar-redd-promises-fail-to-deliver-in-indonesia-and-brazil/ Lots of other articles.. I didn't have the time to dig them all out. Most of the money ended up in corrupt pockets and didn't do anything. You can ask Singapore which had the highest pollution ever recorded thanks to the illegal rainforest clearing in Indonesia. Not sure what the Norwegian politicians are thinking. Either they are doing this due to backroom business deals or they are simply stupid and do not learn from past mistakes in South America and Asia. Maybe try to fix the 2 billion USD first before trying to venture into new territories?
