Citations aside, many people have been seen as evil even though they did what they thought was correct. Adolf Hitler was perhaps the most 'evil' person in recent history, yet I believe he truly thought he was doing what was best...perhaps because of his religion, perhaps otherwise.
What is comes down to is that the construct of 'Evil' is highly subjective. If one is born in the southern US, they will most likely perceive Islam as evil; someone born in Iran may think that an Evangelical is evil. I see selling of one's daughter as evil, or spousal abuse, or forced rape...but this view changes when one takes into account the background of the individual or collective mind perpetrating the act.
